About our 9-Week Puppy Training Camp

Recommended for: For individuals seeking a puppy that has overcome most of the naughty puppy “shenanigans,” has received all of the CORE puppy vaccinations, and is able to be walked in public places such as city streets and parks. Puppies enrolled in our 9-week camp have mastered their obedience commands, and crate training and are able to be left alone for longer periods of time. This is ideal for clients who work long hours outside of the home. This program is also ideal for clients who want to deal with less of the puppy stage but still have the simple joy of a new puppy in their life.

What to during and after the conclusion of the 9-week program:

At the conclusion of the first four weeks, puppies will transition to a new trainer’s home. It is imperative that when puppies are with us for more than 4 weeks, that they practice a transition.  This allows our finishing trainer to help support your puppy through a transition to a new home and new family dynamics.  This is key for helping your puppy transition easier at the end of our 9-week program. This transition also ensures that the puppies do not become too attached to one trainer or family and will assist in the bonding process with the owner.

Puppies that have been through 9 weeks of training are ready to step into their role as a companion dog. While it is essential that training is continued, your puppy is more reliable, better mannered, and won’t require as much watchful care as a puppy that has done a 4-week training camp.

Puppies are expected to be fully potty trained at the trainer’s home. Puppies should transition well to their new home as long as the clients follow the schedule and guidelines provided. Once the transitionary period has passed, we would not expect puppies to be having accidents at this point in their training.

Puppies are now relearning their 4-week commands with the addition of the 3 D’s, Distractions, Durations & Distance. The continued work on these 3 high-level skills provides a puppy that is much quicker to respond and more reliable in varying situations outside of their daily norm.

All of week 4’s training PLUS:

-You will receive weekly pictures, 2 videos per week of outings/socialization, and a weekly recap description and video of what your puppy has mastered that week and the goals for the following week.

-Your puppy will have received his/her 13 & 16-week vaccines except for rabies, which is the owner’s responsibility. Your puppy can now be safely walked in public spaces.

-Your puppy will know how to use a doggy door and is expected to take him/herself out to potty without prompting.

-Your puppy will be crate trained. This means your puppy can hold his/her potty for 8-10 hours and remain quiet overnight and 2 crated naps up to 3-4 hours during the day.

-Your puppy will introduced to a long distance, off-leash recall.

-Your puppy has been working on being calm and relaxed in public. Meaning, your puppy will be taught to go to a “place” in public (ie- a blanket under the table at a restaurant) and to remain unreactive despite the busyness of a public place.

-Your puppy will be learning to walk outside in a proper “heel” and will go into an automatic sit when the walking stops.

-Your puppy will have mastered the art of focus. At this developmental stage, our puppies are looking to their human for direction and leadership. This makes it much easier to work with the puppy and to provide feedback and guidance.

• Your puppy learns the release command “OK” or “BREAK”

• Your puppy will be introduced to, and be working for a longer time in the stay position. The trainer will be varying distances so that the puppy learns to wait for the release command

• Your puppy will be asked to sit and wait before coming out of a threshold or door. Puppies will also learn the command “OUT” and not to cross boundaries that the trainer places. (ie- an imaginary line blocking off the kitchen). This is helpful for clients who only want to allow their puppy in certain rooms of their home,

• Your puppy will be well-conditioned for grooming and maintenance. In addition to bi-weekly baths, your puppy will be given their first haircut, if requested.

• Your puppy will have twice weekly coffee shop/restaurant-style outings, neighborhood walks, school pick-ups/drop-offs, and skate parks. Your trainer will continue with our store outings and introduce dog parks from the safety of a doggy backpack.

Between the 4 & 9th week, we recommend our clients spend a few hours in the trainer’s home bonding and working with their puppy as well as learning our training techniques and commands. In addition, your trainer will hand deliver your puppy to you (within 200 miles of 92108) and spend ample time helping you feel comfortable transitioning the puppy to your home. For clients outside of the 200 mi range, delivery options will be discussed on a case-by-case basis.

Clients enrolled in the 9-week training program will receive an additional 8 weeks of text support and phone calls as needed.

The cost of our 9-week training is $6500.
