The Residency Curriculum

At this developmental stage, our scholars are no longer just reacting; they are looking to their humans for leadership and direction.

We utilize the "Three D's" of Advanced Mastery—Distractions, Duration, and Distance—to ensure your puppy is quicker to respond and reliable in varying situations outside of their daily norm.

The 16-Week Advantage: Brains Meet Mastery

By staying with us until four months of age, your puppy reaches a developmental stage where they actively look to their humans for leadership.

We don’t just teach them commands; we master the "Three D's" of Advanced Training: Distractions, Durations, and Distance. This intensive focus ensures your puppy is much quicker to respond and remains reliable in situations far outside their daily norm.

  • Your puppy will view their crate as a safe, peaceful bedroom.

    • Duration: Graduates can hold their potty and remain quiet for 8–10 hours overnight.

    • Routine: Conditioned for two scheduled crated naps of 3–4 hours during the day.

  • Puppies are expected to be 100% potty trained at the trainer’s home.

    • Doggy Door Mastery: Your puppy will know how to use a doggy door and is expected to take themselves outside to potty without prompting.

    • Seamless Transition: As long as our provided guidelines are followed, we do not expect accidents once the initial transition period has passed.

  • Beyond the basics, our 9-week scholars master:

    • The Art of Focus: Actively looking to their human for direction and guidance.

    • Heel & Automatic Sit: Walking properly on a leash and moving into an automatic sit the moment you stop walking.

    • Off-Leash Recall: An introduction to long-distance, off-leash recall foundations.

    • Release Commands: Understanding the "OK" or "BREAK" release.

    • Threshold Etiquette: Waiting at doors or thresholds until asked to enter or exit.

    • Household Boundaries: Learning the "OUT" command and respecting "imaginary lines" (such as staying out of the kitchen or specific rooms).

We believe a Windsong companion should be at home anywhere. Our residency includes twice-weekly outings to prepare them for your lifestyle:

  • Boutique Socialization: Outings to coffee shops and restaurants where your puppy masters the "Place" command—staying calm on a blanket under the table despite the bustle around them.

  • Urban Exposure: Neighborhood walks, school pick-ups and drop-offs, and store visits.

  • Safe Exploration: Introduction to skate parks and dog parks from the safety of a specialized doggy backpack.

Scientific Integrity & Health

  • Full Vaccinations: Your puppy arrives home having received their 13-week and 16-week core vaccines (excluding Rabies, which remains the owner's responsibility). They are biologically ready to walk safely in public spaces and city streets immediately.

  • Grooming Conditioned: Your scholar will be well-conditioned for a lifetime of maintenance. This includes bi-weekly baths and their very first official haircut (if requested).

The Windsong Partnership: Mentorship for Life

We believe in total transparency. While your puppy is in our care, you remain an integral part of the process:

  • Weekly Visuals: You will receive weekly pictures and two videos per week of outings and socialization.

  • The Mastery Recap: A weekly video and written description of what your puppy mastered that week and our goals for the following week.

  • The Bonding Visit: Between weeks 4 and 9, we invite you into the trainer’s home for a few hours to bond with your puppy and learn our specific techniques and commands firsthand.

  • Graduation Support: To ensure a flawless transition, you will receive 9 weeks of dedicated text and phone support following your puppy’s homecoming.
