Surviving the First 48 Hours with Your Goldendoodle Puppy

Coffee, Cuddles, and 3:00 AM Wake-Up Calls

Navigating the "Beautiful Chaos" of Your First 48 Hours Together

You’ve done the research, you’ve puppy-proofed the house, and you’ve finally made the trip to pick up your new Windsong baby. You’re likely running on a mix of pure adrenaline and "new puppy" euphoria. But as the sun starts to set on that first day, reality sets in: there is a tiny, fluffy, soulful creature in your living room who has no idea where the bathroom is or why he isn't sleeping on Jillian’s sofa anymore.

The first 48 hours are a whirlwind of emotions for both you and your puppy. We always tell our families to expect a little "homesickness" at first. Your puppy is transitioning from the only world they’ve ever known—our busy family home—to a brand new environment. If they whimper a bit the first night or seem a little unsure of their new toys, just remember that they are learning the rhythm of your heart.

The best thing you can do during these first two days is to keep things low-key. Resist the urge to invite the whole neighborhood over to meet the "stuffed animal."

Instead, focus on the "Velcro" bond. Let them lean against your shins while you make coffee, let them nap near your feet, and keep those potty breaks frequent and boring.

Because we’ve already started the foundations of crate and potty training in our nursery, you’re not starting from zero—you’re just helping them translate those skills to their new "Golden Life."

It won't be long before the 3:00 AM wake-up calls are a thing of the past and the "Doodle-flops" become the highlight of your day.
